At the heart of the story is Estrella, a young woman from a wealthy family who yearns for something more than the life that has been chosen for her. She dreams of adventure and independence, and she finds it in the arms of Antonio, a charismatic revolutionary fighting for the freedom of his country.
But their love is forbidden, and they must keep it a secret from Estrella's family. When the revolution erupts, Estrella and Antonio are forced to make a difficult choice: to fight for their love or to fight for their country.
As the war rages on, Estrella and Antonio are separated. Estrella is forced to flee her home and seek refuge in the mountains, where she meets a group of rebels who help her to find her own strength and courage.
Meanwhile, Antonio is fighting on the front lines, risking his life for the freedom of his country. He is haunted by the memories of Estrella, and he longs to see her again.
