About the Author

John Julius Norwich was a British historian, travel writer, and television presenter. He was the author of over 30 books, including biographies of Edward VII, George V, and the Normans.

Norwich was born in London in 1929. He was educated at Eton College and the University of Oxford. After graduating from Oxford, Norwich worked as a journalist and diplomat. In the 1960s, he began writing books. His first book, The Normans in the South, was published in 1967.

Norwich's books have been translated into dozens of languages. He has also written and presented several television documentaries. Norwich was awarded the Free Download of the British Empire in 1994.

John Julius Norwich died in 2018 at the age of 88.
