The Lafleur family was one of the first families to settle in the Pacific Northwest. In 1792, Jean-Baptiste Lafleur, a French Canadian fur trader, married Marie-Anne Lagimodière, a Métis woman. The couple had several children, and their descendants eventually became some of the most influential people in the region.

The Menard family was another prominent fur trading family in the Pacific Northwest. In 1811, Pierre Menard, a French Canadian fur trader, married Marguerite Wadin, a Cree woman. The couple had several children, and their descendants also became prominent citizens in the region.
