Vavilov's Work on Crop Diversity

After graduating from university, Vavilov began working as a plant breeder. He was particularly interested in crop diversity, and he believed that it was essential to preserve the world's agricultural heritage. Vavilov traveled the world, collecting seeds and studying different cultures. He visited countries in Europe, Asia, Africa, and the Americas. He collected over 100,000 seed samples, and he documented the traditional agricultural practices of the people he met.

Vavilov's Global Seed Bank

In 1920, Vavilov founded the Institute of Plant Industry in Leningrad. The institute's mission was to collect and preserve the world's agricultural heritage.
